There are approximately 200,000 people living with spinal cord injuries (SCI) in the United States, including veterans.
As a program of United Spinal Association, VetsFirst fully supports research to find better treatments, therapies, and a ultimately a cure for SCI.
In commemoration of National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, we would like veterans and their family members to know that there are outlets to help you overcome the challenges of SCI.
United Spinal’s membership division, NSCIA is committed to connecting people living with SCI to active-lifestyle information, peer support and advocacy that empower them to achieve their highest potential in all facets of life. Best of all, membership is free.
NSCIA has over 60 chapters and support groups operating throughout the country that offer a variety of activities for people with SCI to get involved in their communities.
Also, be sure to visit NSCIA’s Spinal Cord Central resource center, where you can find a wealth of information on SCI-related topics to share with your friends and loved ones, such as employment; affordable housing; transportation; health care; home- and community-based independent living; education; peer support; wheelchairs and technology; and leisure and recreation.
