The Department of Veterans Affairs has announced a historic VGLI Premium Holiday, waiving insurance premiums for over 457,000 enrolled veterans.

Starting November 1, 2026, through January 31, 2027, eligible policyholders in the Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI) program will not have to make premium payments, resulting in an average savings of $330 per veteran over the three-month period.

Key Details for Policyholders:

  • Automatic Exemption: If your VGLI policy is active as of November 1, 2026, you will automatically receive the waiver—no application or manual action is required.
  • Uninterrupted Coverage: Your term life insurance coverage will remain fully active and unaffected throughout the entire holiday.
  • Advance Payments & Credits: Veterans who have already paid premiums covering these months will automatically receive a credit toward future billing statements or can request a refund.
