How can I find out if I’m rated permanently and totally disabled by VA?
Answer:
If the permanent and total box is not checked on your VA rating decision, you can be re-evaluated and possibly have your disability rating reduced. A veteran can be rated 100% “Total” without being “Permanent & Total” (P&T). This usually happens when VA believes that a disability may improve. You can also tell if a disability rating is 100% P&T by looking at whether your rating decision approves you for the “Dependents Educational Assistance” and “Chapter 35 Benefits.”
Once a veteran has been rated for twenty years, his or her rating is concerned to be “protected.” Thus, it will not be reduced unless it was based on fraudulent circumstances.
