June 14 is Flag Day, commemorating the adoption of the mighty Flag of the United States of America in 1777.
The Stars and Stripes have witnessed our country’s greatest triumphs and defeats. It has joined countless generations of brave men and women on the battlefield, who have sacrificed their lives to protect what it stands for. The American Flag has accompanied us on our greatest achievements. It flies at both poles, on the moon, and sits atop Mount Everest. The Flag is how America signs her name.
We see the American Flag every day, but rarely stop to think about its significance in our history and the liberty and freedom it symbolizes.
“The Flag of the United States has not been created by rhetorical sentences in declarations of independence and in bills of rights. It has been created by the experience of a great people, and nothing is written upon it that has not been written by their life. It is the embodiment, not of a sentiment, but of a history.”––Woodrow Wilson
