Question:

I know a veteran who is claiming he has dependents so he can get additional monthly compensation. I would like to report him to the authorities. Who should I tell? The FBI?

Answer:

Before we go any further I caution you to think carefully about what you are considering doing. I recommend that you be absolutely certain of the circumstances and of the reported fraud. Failure to do so could open you up for legal and possible financial liability. If you have any questions speak with a local attorney.

That being said if you would like to report this I would suggest you contact the VA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG). The OIG is responsible for oversight of VA programs and to prevent and investigate cases of fraud and abuse.
